Clients & contacts
LiveA client is a record with contacts, not a name typed on a matter — and duplicates merge without losing anything.
- ✓Client records with contacts, linked from matters
- ✓Duplicate detection that ignores legal-form suffixes such as Ltd and Pvt
- ✓Merge without deletion — the old record forwards to the survivor
- ✓Filter matters, the vault, tasks, workflow runs and saved views by client
What it is.
Every matter can point at a client record, and each client holds its contacts. When a matter is created with only a client name, it is linked to the existing client of that name, or a new one is made. The duplicate check normalises legal-form suffixes, so "Acme Corp Ltd" and "Acme Corp" are recognised as one client.
Merging two clients never deletes one: the merged record keeps its id and points at the survivor, and every lookup follows that pointer. Matters, documents, tasks, workflow runs and saved views can all be filtered by client. A contact flagged for portal access is the one a share or a client message can reach.
Three steps.
End to end.
From the Client Directory, or let a new matter create one from its client name.
Name, email and whether the contact may use the client portal.
Merge two records; the duplicate points at the survivor and nothing is deleted.

Quick answers.
They resolve to the surviving client, because every lookup follows the merge pointer.
No. Portal access is a switch on the contact, and a share can only go to a contact who has it.
